Van Gogh: The digital exhibition where art and technology meet is in Istanbul

'Van Gogh: In the Footsteps of Light', a digital exhibition, has opened at the Digital Experience Center in Istanbul's Sütlüce district, aiming to take visitors not just on a walk in front of paintings, but on a journey into the depths of the famous painter's mind. Supported by Istanbul Municipality's Kültür AŞ, the exhibition allows viewers to witness different stages of Van Gogh's life, from his childhood years to his time in the hospital in Saint-Rémy.

VAN GOGH'S WORLD IS RECONSTRUCTED

Turkey's first fully equipped Digital Experience Center reconstructs the universe of Vincent Van Gogh using artificial intelligence, virtual reality, interactive projections, and special installations. Scenes placed in different sections of the center take the viewer on an impressive journey starting from the artist's subconscious, through his youth, his creative period in Southern France, and the days he spent in Saint-Rémy.

13 SPECIALLY PRODUCED DIGITAL WORKS

'Van Gogh: In the Footsteps of Light' presents a special selection consisting of a total of 13 digital works. 10 of these works were produced specifically for the Digital Experience Center and are meeting the audience for the first time in this exhibition. The artists featured in the exhibition are;Design in Situ, Fuat Genç, Lucid Realities, Nohlab, Özde Karadağ, and Ufuk Barış Mutlu.

Nohlab's works, previously exhibited in Dublin, can be viewed for the first time in Turkey at the Digital Experience Center's Immersive Experience Room and Augmented Reality Room. Meanwhile, the virtual reality experience developed by VR Future for the Musée d'Orsay is meeting art lovers in Istanbul for the first time following its showing in Paris.

FIVE DIGITAL DOORS OPENING TO VAN GOGH'S WORLD

The exhibition, brought to life by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Kültür AŞ, consists of four thematic rooms and one digital corridor. Each section brings different periods of the artist's life and his works to the audience through interactive methods.

• The Digital Room presents Van Gogh's life story, the letters he wrote, and his works in chronological order. Supported by specially developed interactive applications, the motion-sensor “Sensory Flow” wall in the area draws attention.
• The “Van Gogh's Palette” experience, located in the Virtual Reality Room, allows visitors to explore works from different periods of the artist using VR headsets.
• The Immersive Experience Room offers a digital journey into Van Gogh's subconscious. The years the artist spent in Southern France and his prominent works are viewed accompanied by the works of classical music composers such as Bach, Vivaldi, and Debussy.
• The Augmented Reality Room hosts more than 2,000 Van Gogh works that have been analyzed and reinterpreted by artificial intelligence algorithms. In this area, visitors encounter original digital works created while remaining faithful to the artist's style.
• The Digital Corridor completes the experience by taking visitors through Van Gogh's colorful world with surfaces that react to movement and gamified applications.

The “Van Gogh: In the Footsteps of Light” exhibition can be visited at the Sütlüce Digital Experience Center every day except Mondays from 10:00 to 19:00 until February 2026.
