What is the bad surprise awaiting the İYİ Party on March 31? 'They might lose what they already have'

As the local elections approach, the statements made by İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener are drawing attention.

While Akşener frequently directs criticism at the opposition as well as the government in her election speeches, journalist Murat Yetkin wrote about the bad surprise awaiting the İYİ Party in the March 31 local elections.

"THEY ARE CLEARLY CHOOSING SIDES"

Stating that the İYİ Party has joined the ranks of parties that do not expect votes from Kurdish voters in the March 31 elections, Yetkin wrote: "The İYİ Party's approach cannot be considered foul politics over Kurdish voters; in that respect, they are not displaying hypocrisy, they are clearly choosing sides. However, a bad surprise awaiting the İYİ Party in the March 31 local elections could be failing to secure seats in municipal councils. The İYİ Party might lose what it already has while chasing after more."

"DEPENDS ON EXCEEDING 10 PERCENT..."

Noting that it does not seem possible for parties that fail to receive 10 percent of the vote to secure seats in municipal councils, Yetkin stated: "In the previous election, for example, in Istanbul, İYİ Party members were able to take part in the Metropolitan and district municipal councils because they were listed on the CHP ballot. Therefore, the presence of İYİ Party members in municipal councils appears to depend on them exceeding 10 percent in that electoral district."
