What was discussed at the second meeting of Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations?

The second round of Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations was again hosted by Turkey. Evaluating reports that Russia demanded the incorporation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson into its own territory and the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from these regions, journalist Okay Deprem said, "I haven't seen an official statement regarding this, but it has somehow leaked to the press. In my opinion, the parties are not yet very ready for this. The Russian side has updated its demand again, but I don't think the Ukrainian side has given a serious response. Despite everything, the picture at this point is negative in my view. Ukraine will not want to lose these regions, let alone Crimea."

What was discussed at the second meeting of Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations?

The second round of peace negotiations aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine War was held at the Çırağan Palace in Istanbul. Journalist and author Okay Deprem, who evaluated the Turkey-Russia-Ukraine Trilateral Meeting for 12punto columnist Dr. Şenol Çarık, recalled that a new prisoner exchange was discussed between the delegations. Deprem drew attention to the attack Ukraine carried out against Russia before the negotiations, which was on a scale never seen before and raised tensions on the front. Stating that it is important that Russia did not give up on the table despite everything, Deprem emphasized the impact of the peace expectations of the new US administration under President Trump, Russia's stance of not leaving the table, and the importance of Turkey's mediation.

‘NEGOTIATIONS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT’

Evaluating the statements regarding Russia's demand in the memorandum presented to Ukraine for the incorporation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson into its own territory and the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from these regions, Okay Deprem continued as follows:
"I haven't seen an official statement regarding this, but it has somehow leaked to the press. In my opinion, the parties are not yet very ready for this. The Russian side has updated its demand again, but I don't think the Ukrainian side has given a serious response. Despite everything, the picture at this point is negative in my view. Ukraine will not want to lose these regions, let alone Crimea. The main powers behind Ukraine will also not want these regions to leave Ukraine! Negotiations will continue until the last moment. It might take weeks, maybe months..."

TURKEY'S WEIGHT AND STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE...

Drawing attention to the constructive and active diplomatic role of Turkey, which hosted the peace talks, and to Turkey's weight and strategic-geopolitical importance, Deprem said that the parties want to continue the negotiations in Istanbul in the coming process.
