2028 message from Kürşad Zorlu: 'We will re-elect Erdoğan, our goal is Çankaya'
AKP Deputy Chairman Kürşad Zorlu gave a message regarding Erdoğan for the 2028 elections and set Çankaya as the target for 2029.
AKP Deputy Chairman Kürşad Zorlu met with party organization members at his party's Çankaya District Election Coordination Center in Ankara.
During the meeting, Zorlu made assessments regarding the presidential, parliamentary, and local elections, pointing to the 2028 and 2029 elections as key items on his party's agenda.
In his speech, Zorlu stated, "In 2028, we will re-elect our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as president. But that is not enough; we will raise our bar even higher. I believe that if we stand in unity, we will honor both the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and Çankaya with the AK Party this time. Because you can see the services provided at the local level."
Stating that he attaches special importance to Çankaya, Zorlu said that his party acts in line with its own goals. Zorlu said, "We are a political party that acts with its own goals, not with the agenda of those who compete with us. That is why I am setting this goal. Our goal is the 2029 Çankaya local elections."
Discussions regarding Erdoğan's re-candidacy have been on the political agenda for some time. Chief Advisor to the President Mehmet Uçum had argued that if the general elections were held on April 16, 2028, instead of May 7, Erdoğan could be a candidate again.
Uçum had stated that this possibility should not be evaluated as an "early election," but rather as moving the election date forward by a short period.
