25 youths arrested during Saraçhane protests released

In Istanbul's Saraçhane district, a decision has been made to release 25 young defendants who were detained and arrested during protests following operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).

The Istanbul 26th Criminal Court of First Instance, taking into account the time the defendants had spent in detention and the fact that the evidence had been collected, ruled that continued detention was disproportionate and that the defendants could be released under judicial control measures.

NEXT HEARING ON SEPTEMBER 19

The court ordered that a writ be issued for the immediate release of the defendants, provided they are not being held or serving sentences for other crimes. Furthermore, it was decided to lift the previously imposed measures of house arrest and travel bans. This decision was made on the grounds that most of the defendants are students and had submitted documentation showing they are studying abroad.

Meanwhile, the court adjourned the hearing to September 19, 2025, at 09:30. It was noted that the defendants and their lawyers have the right to appeal the release decisions within 2 weeks.
