28 defendants on trial! New development in the stone attack case against İmamoğlu
A new development has occurred in the case regarding the stone attack on Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu during his 'Public Meeting' in Erzurum prior to the Presidential elections.
IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's 'Public Meeting' in Erzurum prior to the Presidential elections was the subject of a hearing held today at the Erzurum 7th Criminal Court of First Instance regarding the stone attack he was subjected to during the event.
The fourth hearing of the case was attended by the complainant's lawyers and some of the defendants. Some of the defendants being tried in connection with the stone attack reiterated the statements they had previously given to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
REQUEST FOR ARREST WARRANT
İmamoğlu's lawyers, Serkan Günel and Kazım Yiğit Akalın, requested that the court waive the requirement for their client to be heard via deposition and that arrest warrants be issued for the defendants who did not appear to provide testimony.
The lawyer for 13-year-old Y.N., who was injured in the stone attack during Mayor İmamoğlu's Erzurum rally, stated that the attackers acted with intent, and requested that all defendants be punished individually, as they engaged in attempts that led to the injury of people there, including their client.
The court adjourned the hearing to June 24 to address deficiencies.
The court also decided to send the file to the public prosecutor for the preparation of the final opinion on the merits. It was stated that if the statements of the two defendants who have not yet been heard are taken, the hearing to be held on June 24 will be the sentencing hearing.
