A call from Kemal Aydın to Şükrü Genç, who is running as an independent in the elections! 'To save Turkey from this one-man regime...'

There are only a few days left until the March 31, 2024 local elections.

The results from the districts of Istanbul, where all eyes are turned during these critical elections, are also being awaited with curiosity.

The Republican People's Party (CHP) who has served as mayor in Sarıyer since 2009 Şükrü Gençnominated Mustafa Oktay Aksuin place of him. Reacting to the Headquarters' decision, Şükrü Genç resigned from his party and decided to run in the elections as an independent.

The founding former mayor of Bahçeşehir Kemal Aydın, Deniz Baykal made a call to Şükrü Genç by recalling his own experiences within the CHP under the leadership of.

Recalling that during his tenure as the Mayor of Bahçeşehir, the government decided to abolish the municipality and merge it with Başakşehir, and that due to the struggle he put up, Deniz Baykal insistently offered him to leave ANAP and join the CHP, Aydın explained that he accepted this offer upon the intervention of the 9th President Süleyman Demirel and recounted what happened subsequently.

Aydın, who was announced as the CHP's candidate for Bakırköy, recalled that Baykal withdrew his candidacy by presenting various excuses.

Drawing on the process he went through himself, Aydın made a call to Şükrü Genç, "In other words, Baykal deceived and transferred both me and Mr. Demirel to utilize my media popularity and public support at that time, and after taking what he wanted from us, he turned his back and continued his own game. Şükrü brother, as a brother whose rights were usurped during both the Baykal and Kılıçdaroğlu eras, I could say a lot..." However, in the face of the situation our country is in, we must put our personal expectations aside and make choices that will determine the fate of a nation. What suits you is to withdraw your candidacy and raise Ekrem President's hand. This is how being an elder brother works" he stated.

The letter Aydın wrote to Şükrü Genç is as follows;

"AN OPEN LETTER TO MY PRESIDENT ŞÜKRÜ GENÇ!

Hello Şükrü brother,

It is not my place to give you advice, but as a fellow citizen and brother who was chosen as the most successful municipality and mayor of 2005 among the municipalities of 90 countries in the Council of Europe, I would like to inform you and those who love you about my CHP adventure. The year was 2008; at that time, we had achieved revolutionary work in municipal services in Bahçeşehir, where I was elected as the founding mayor in 1999. Turkey was talking about our projects on the main news bulletins. The ruling party, in order to stop these successes, decided to close our municipality and attach it to Başakşehir. The struggle I waged together with the people of Bahçeşehir against this closure decision made a lot of noise in the public eye, and approximately 7 million people living in 1215 municipal regions in Turkey practically rebelled against this anti-democratic practice of the government...

Deniz Baykal, who criticized Tayyip Erdoğan's Law on Closing Municipalities by using the Bahçeşehir example and bringing our municipal successes to group meetings every week, was persistently offering me to leave ANAP and join the CHP...

Although I did not look warmly upon this offer for a long time, based on information provided by people who knew Baykal well, I was eventually forced to accept the offer as a patriotic duty after our 9th President Süleyman Demirel intervened.

According to this agreement, Baykal would make me the candidate for Bakırköy, and I would join the CHP on the condition that I implement the New Generation Municipalism Model, which we called BAYÖN-M in the Bahçeşehir Municipality, in Bakırköy.

This was the agreement between Mr. Süleyman and Baykal!

Mr. Deniz announced my candidacy for a week, but a week later, he called me one evening, invited me to Ankara, and said the following:

“My dear Kemal, I have watched your successes with admiration, and I requested help from Mr. Süleyman for you to bring your municipalism model under the roof of the CHP.

A week ago, I was the one who asked you to apply to our Bakırköy District Presidency so that you could be our Bakırköy candidate.

However, they said that if Ateş Ünal Erzen was not nominated again, Beşiktaş Mayor İsmail Ünal, Avcılar Mayor Mustafa Değirmenci, and Kadıköy Mayor Selami Öztürk would not remain silent on this situation. (As I learned months later, these three mayors never had such an attitude toward Mr. Baykal.) Therefore, he asked for a sacrifice from me, saying that the damage of a crisis occurring one month before the election would be great for our party.”

In other words, Baykal deceived and transferred both me and Mr. Demirel to exploit my media popularity and public support at that time, and after getting what he wanted from us, he turned his back and continued his own game. I experienced the deep disappointment of having believed a lying Chairman who claimed to have signed the membership forms of 3,000 people who joined the CHP under Article 12 at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Group Meeting along with me, but who did not even make my wife a member of the party. Mr. Demirel was very saddened by this situation, but despite the trickery the CHP Chairman played on me and my friends, he advised me to continue my path in the CHP for the defense of the homeland by recalling anecdotes from his memories with İsmet Paşa.

Brother Şükrü, as a brother of yours whose rights were usurped during both the Baykal and Kılıçdaroğlu eras, I could say a lot...

However, in the face of the situation our country is in, we must put our personal expectations aside and make choices that will determine the fate of a nation.

We must support Mayor Ekrem, our only alternative capable of leading the oppressed against this totalitarian government, unconditionally and without expectation.

Because we can only change this one-man regime with a structure under his leadership.

I can understand your hurt and your anger, but I cannot understand an engineer putting his ambitions before his reason...

According to your calculations, let's say you won Sarıyer again and took your revenge on the CHP management...

But in exchange for you winning Sarıyer, you also caused Mayor Ekrem to lose the election by 10,000 votes...

Do you have the right to do this to the people of Istanbul,

to the Turkish nation? Please, think about this!

Think about it, and come join Mayor Ekrem in this final week to save Turkey from this one-man regime.

Let the whole country embrace you and applaud you.

Let the work you have done up until this hour be recorded as a protest by all of us against the party's way of conducting politics!

What suits you is to withdraw your candidacy and raise Mayor Ekrem's hand.

That is how one acts as an elder brother..."
