A sad day for the AKP: Former minister passes away

Mustafa Demir served as an AKP deputy for Samsun during the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th legislative terms and held the position of Minister of Public Works and Housing between 2009 and 2011. Elected as the Mayor of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality in the March 31, 2019 local elections, Demir held this office for one term.

AKP's Mehmet Muş stated in a post on his social media account, “We have learned with sadness of the passing of our former Minister of Public Works and Housing, our Samsun Deputy, and our Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Demir. His services to our nation and our city of Samsun will always be remembered with gratitude. Condolences to his family and loved ones. May God have mercy on his soul.”

Mayor Halit Doğan said, “I have learned with sadness the news of the passing of our esteemed elder Mustafa Demir, who served our city of Samsun and our country as the founding provincial chair of the AK Party in Samsun, as a deputy, as Minister of Public Works and Housing, and as Metropolitan Mayor. We will always remember our esteemed Mayor for the services he brought to our city. I wish God's mercy upon our Mayor and patience for his family and loved ones. May his place be heaven and his station be high.”

A funeral prayer for Mustafa Demir will be held today at the Samsun Grand Mosque following the afternoon prayer. His body will then be taken to his hometown, the Şalpazarı district of Trabzon. Demir will be laid to rest tomorrow following a funeral prayer to be held after the noon prayer in the Turalıuşağı neighborhood.
