Acquittal for Ahmet Türk: Grounds for trustee appointment removed
DEM Party member Ahmet Türk has been acquitted in a trial concerning a speech he delivered in 2011. The court ruled that the statements in question fall under the scope of freedom of expression.
A lawsuit was filed against DEM Party member Ahmet Türk in 2022 on charges of "making terrorist organization propaganda," based on a speech he delivered in Siirt on March 28, 2011. The verdict was announced in the case heard at the Ankara 14th High Criminal Court. The court ruled that Türk's speech could be considered "within the scope of freedom of expression" and issued an acquittal on the grounds that "the elements of the crime were not formed."
CITED AS GROUNDS FOR TRUSTEE APPOINTMENT
This lawsuit filed against Ahmet Türk had been used as the basis for the appointment of a trustee to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality for the third time on November 4, 2024. The Ministry of Interior had cited the file in which Türk was being tried as a justification for the trustee appointment decision. With the acquittal, the judicial process that served as the basis for the trustee appointment has come to an end.
APPLICATION FOR REINSTATEMENT CAN BE MADE
Following the finalization of the acquittal, the path has been cleared for Ahmet Türk's reinstatement. For Türk to return to his position as Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, he must file an official application with the Ministry of Interior.
