Statements by CHP spokesperson Müslim Sarı regarding Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş have brought a new crisis to the party. Following Sarı's remarks, Yavaş announced in a statement on his social media account that he has resigned from the CHP and will continue his path as an independent.
In his statement, Sarı had criticized Yavaş for informing Özgür Özel only after his meeting with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Palace on September 9. Emphasizing the CHP's institutional identity, Sarı had stated, "No one is exempt from this."
Sarı noted that mayors are expected to adhere to the party line in activities and events related to party affiliation, saying, "A mayor cannot say that they informed the chairman of another party in addition to their own chairman while carrying out an action."
Following Yavaş's resignation decision, there was activity at the CHP Headquarters. According to Mahir Kılıç from Habertürk, following the crisis, Müslim Sarı went up to the chairman's floor to meet with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
