After CHP leader Özel, now a call from DEM Party: 'Turkey must go to early elections immediately'
Following the appointment of a trustee to the Hakkari Municipality, the Co-Chairs of the DEM Party called for the resignation of the AKP government and demanded early elections in Hakkari. Recently, CHP leader Özgür Özel had also stated, "If things continue this way, the nation will demand early elections."
Protests continue following the appointment of a trustee to the Hakkari Municipality, which was won by the DEM Party in the March 31 Local Elections.
While Mayor Mehmet Sıddık Akış was sentenced to 19 years in prison and sent to jail, DEM Party Co-Chairs Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları met with NGO representatives in Hakkari.
Tuncer Bakırhan reacted to the trustee decision, stating that armed law enforcement officers had been deployed to the streets.
CALL FOR EARLY ELECTIONS FROM DEM PARTY
Tülay Hatimoğulları invited the AKP government to resign and called for early elections.
“This illegitimate palace administration and its partner must resign immediately. If they do not resign, Turkey must go to early elections immediately,” said Hatimoğulları, who used the following expressions in her statement:
"We underline this once again from here. The AKP and its partner, the MHP, are now illegitimate; they have once again certified their illegitimacy. They will end up in the dustbin of history. When we look at the mathematical arithmetic in the latest elections, they have lost the support of the people and are taking political revenge on us. This is the reason why they have appointed this trustee again. Another reason is to turn the financial resources of the municipalities into their own resources and hand them over to their cronies.
This illegitimate palace administration and its partner must resign immediately. If they do not resign, Turkey must go to early elections immediately. The conditions for early elections in Turkey have now been met, and we announce our call for early elections from here, from Hakkari—the focus they chose to expand the trustee regime they have imposed—to the entire Turkish public. Turkey must go to early elections immediately. While I greet you all with respect and love here, I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of our party to all the institutions that have provided support, all our institutions that have shared their support with us by coming here from across Turkey, and all our democratic forces, revolutionary forces, and socialists."
ÖZGÜR ÖZEL HAD ALSO MADE AN EARLY ELECTION STATEMENT
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel had made a statement regarding early elections in his speech at his party's group meeting on June 4.
Özel had stated, "If things continue this way, the nation will demand early elections, and no one can stand in its way. It is that clear. The nation makes its voice heard by those who do not listen, and shows itself to those who do not see it. Those who read the upcoming period of democratization, normalization, protecting the victim, bringing a smile to the faces of retirees, and supporting minimum wage earners will understand; for those who do not, this nation will make them read the letter they did not read in the general elections."
