Lobbying claims from the AKP wing suggesting that “another metropolitan municipality is next” have turned eyes toward Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras. Aras, from the CHP, gave a clear response to the allegations that he would change parties.
Speaking regarding the claims that surfaced following the transfer of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, Aras denied rumors that he would join the AKP or any other party.
Speaking to Odatv, Aras said, "Absolutely not. Neither the AKP nor any other party. I have stated this many times. We will continue our path under the CHP umbrella."

One of the debates in Muğla politics also took place over a social media post by CHP Muğla Provincial Vice Chair Uğur Ürper. After Nail Kızıl, who was previously removed from his post as CHP Muğla Provincial Chair and resigned from his party to become the Founding Provincial Chair of the New Party (Yeni Parti), announced his candidacy again, Ürper used the phrases, “You came on October 19, you are leaving on October 18, Zübük.”

Aras reacted by stating that he finds the post in question unacceptable in terms of political courtesy. He said that as a CHP mayor, he does not find it right for any party member to address another party official with this tone.
"No one can speak to the provincial chair or official of any party with this tone. Nail Kızıl is a name who has served in CHP cadres for years and has worked hard for the success of his party. He has decided to engage in politics in the NEW Party, which defends CHP ideals by not accepting lawlessness. I condemn in the strongest terms this unethical and immoral political tone that ignores political courtesy and tramples on human dignity."
