Ahmet Davutoğlu sends message: 'We are ready to cooperate'

Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu made significant statements at the closing of his party's camp in Ankara. Davutoğlu offered harsh criticisms regarding recent political developments, the government's stance, and Turkey's ongoing economic crisis, in addition to the ongoing negotiations with the New Welfare Party.

STATEMENT ON COOPERATION WITH THE NEW WELFARE PARTY

Davutoğlu said the following regarding the negotiations the Future Party is conducting with the New Welfare Party:

"The negotiations we are conducting with the New Welfare Party are also on the public agenda today. Yes, we are talking to them as well. We are ready to meet and cooperate with anyone who wants to form a strong nationalist-conservative and libertarian nationalist-conservative alliance against a strong People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı)."

ALLEGATIONS OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE TBMM

Davutoğlu also addressed the allegations of sexual abuse against young girls interning at the TBMM. Criticizing the government's silence, Davutoğlu said:

"Girls between the ages of 12 and 15 who went to the TBMM for internships were subjected to sexual harassment and rape. When such an incident occurs, the supervisors of the institution and the Speaker of the Parliament should not be able to sleep, asking 'Why couldn't I protect these girls?', and they should resign. Has the President made a statement on this matter in the last week? For God's sake, while talking about the oppressed in Gaza, how will those who cannot protect the oppressed young girls in their own country protect the oppressed abroad?"

Evaluating the drug operations on the agenda and the competition within the government, Davutoğlu said, "I am pointing to the 'moral collapse' debates over drug operations targeting some well-known names in the public eye. But the fact that this agenda is stuck on allegations of intra-government competition rather than the event itself is another indicator of the decay."

CRITICISM OF THE ROBBERY AT THE JUDICIAL DEPOSITORY

Touching on problems in the fields of justice and security, Davutoğlu criticized the Minister of Justice:

"We are the 6th country in the world with the most prisoners, and a robbery took place at the judicial depository. The Minister of Justice does not ask, 'How could my civil servant do such a thing?' What point have we reached? Can such a robbery happen where there is justice and trust?"

Davutoğlu argued that a third alternative must be created in a Turkey where polarization is deepening. He stated that this third alternative could be established by cooperating with all political parties.

HARSH CRITICISMS OF THE GOVERNMENT AND OPPOSITION

Criticizing both the government and the main opposition party, Davutoğlu emphasized that political struggle should not be based on "revanchism":

“If the current government continues on its path with all its mistakes in the coming period, and those who sustain the government enter into rivalries in the post-President era, they will have nothing left to say to Turkey. Likewise, if the main opposition party intends to drag the country into polarization by using the presidential government system powers used by the President in the next election, they also have nothing to offer this country.”

Davutoğlu stated that his party and other opposition parties should increase their preparations for the election and gave the following message:

“We must build the infrastructure for an electoral alliance now. We must put a real alternative before the nation. Otherwise, forming a group will be a major deficiency if it remains limited only to the technical advantages provided by the group.”

Stating that the Future Party has a clear stance on merging or forming an alliance, Davutoğlu said, "If a merger is in question, we will enter any alliance in an equal and honorable manner; if an alliance is in question, we will again enter it in an equal and honorable manner. However, we will never chase after positions and titles."

Stating that Turkey's economic crisis is "not an economic, but an economic-political problem," Davutoğlu touched upon the disincentivizing effects of the currency-protected deposit scheme on production. He also said that the minimum wage should be increased, but that the industrialist would weaken if the cost is not covered by the state. Davutoğlu concluded his call for transparency, clean politics, and the fight against corruption with a message of "moral revolution."
