Ahmet Zeki Üçok, dismissed from IYI Party, breaks his silence

The turbulent process continues within the IYI Party, which rejected the CHP's proposal for cooperation in the local elections.

In the IYI Party, where news of resignations has been coming one after another, Ahmet Zeki Üçok, Head of IYI Party Law and Justice Policies, who advocated for cooperation with the CHP, has been dismissed from his post.

Üçok explained the background of his dismissal.

Speaking to Aytunç Erkin from Sözcü, Üçok stated that he received a WhatsApp message from an unregistered number and learned of his dismissal in this way.

Here are Üçok's statements:

"The night before last, I received a WhatsApp message from a number not registered in my contacts. 'According to Article 48 or 50 of the bylaws, you have been removed from your post. Signed, Meral Akşener.' Yes... It was written that it was signed by Chairwoman Meral Akşener and that I had been removed from my post. Afterwards, I called Ms. Meral and she confirmed it. When I asked her, 'I received such a letter. Why?', her response to me was: 'Yes, I gave the instruction. You sent a tweet. That tweet caused problems in the party. Everyone called me.'

I said: 'That was a post supporting you. Mr. Kürşad called me and said, "It sounds like you are going to leave the party. Could you change this?" and I added to it.'

Ms. Meral continued: 'But before changing it, you used sentences like "this party".' I then said the sentence, 'If I am causing any discomfort, I can leave the party if you wish.' The Chairwoman said the following: 'I like your work. I want to protect you. We must stand tall until March 31. I make a decision, and it is implemented differently in Istanbul. We must bring order to the party. If you are angry, the choice is yours, you can leave.' Afterwards, I wanted to look at the letter from the party again, but the letter was gone and the WhatsApp message had been deleted. I called the number. I said, 'Why did you send it, why did you delete it?' I called Secretary General Ayfer Yılmaz, she did not answer. Yesterday morning, journalist Hilal Köylü called and said she heard I had been dismissed. Then Ms. Ayfer called: 'I have no knowledge of such a letter.' I said, 'I am a deputy chairman, the procedure should not have been like this.' I called Ayfer Yılmaz once more and said that journalists were calling, and she said to me, 'Give me half an hour, an hour, I will provide information.'"

WILL ÜÇOK RESIGN FROM THE IYI PARTY?

IYI Party Secretary General Ayfer Yılmaz officially announced yesterday around 13:40 that Üçok had been dismissed. Sözcü columnist Erkin, who stated that he then called Üçok, reported that Üçok said, “I am in a state of astonishment.” However, Üçok added that he is not considering resigning from the party.
