AKP candidate threatens governor and district governor after losing election: 'This betrayal will not go unpunished'

In the March 31 local elections; CHP candidate Ümit Tayhava received 401 votes, Labour Party (EMEP) candidate Rıza Cangöz received 280 votes, and AK Party candidate and incumbent mayor Murat Becerikli received 65 votes.

According to official results, CHP's Tayhava won the election with 52.15 percent of the vote, received his certificate of election, and began his term.

AKP's former mayor Murat Becerikli, who lost the election, returned to his civil service position at the Provincial Health Directorate in Bingöl.

Becerikli made threats against Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu, Mazgirt District Governor Necdet Uçar, as well as soldiers and police officers, through posts on his WhatsApp status, alleging that they were the reason he lost the election.

"PRIMARILY THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR WHO DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BEST INTERESTS AT HEART..."

Murat Becerikli confirmed that he made the posts and stood by what he wrote, stating the following:

"My dear fellow citizens of Mazgirt, I thank you for the support you gave to my party and to me in the March 31, 2019 local elections. I served you with all my heart and soul for 5 years. Your favor toward us is known to everyone. I believe that this favor would have been reflected in the ballot box, but unfortunately, the sons of the homeland serving in our district were directed to vote for the CHP under the orders and instructions of those who do not have your best interests at heart, primarily District Governor Necdet Uçar and Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu, and our Mazgirt was prevented from receiving services.

I wish everyone had made their own choice freely and exercised their democratic right. The Governor and District Governor, who placed a mortgage on the democratic rights of our soldiers and police, see themselves as above the state and politics. This betrayal they have committed will not go unpunished. I leave this group, which prevents the people of Mazgirt from receiving services, to God."

Following the posts, the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into Murat Becerikli.
