Nine AKP Provincial General Assembly members who did not attend the Niğde Provincial General Assembly Ordinary Meetings issued a joint press statement expressing their reaction to Council President Ömer Kılıç.
"DISRESPECT TO HIS CAUSE"
Council members Yavuz Soylu, Asım Acar, Yıldıray Uysal, Erdal Niğdelioğlu, Süleyman Yalçın, Nihat Tarım, Sami Altınkaya, Cevat Temur, and Hüseyin Özgüler, who reacted to Council President Ömer Kılıç, issued a joint press statement.
The following statements were included in the joint declaration:
“First and foremost, after being elected as a council member through our party's nomination and the votes of our constituents, acting against our party's group decision and becoming a candidate for council president without the knowledge and approval of our headquarters is nothing but disrespect and betrayal to his party, his voters, and his cause. Being elected as a candidate by making certain deals with opposition parties without even being able to receive a single vote from his own group is an extremely dishonorable behavior that does not fit political ethics. Ömer Kılıç, who engages in politics by succumbing to his personal ambitions and desires, has joined the class of disreputable politicians of the past known for their 'political flip-flopping' and has been buried in the trash heap of politics. He has taken his place in the conscience of the Niğde public and our voters as a disreputable politician who never leaves a good legacy and who betrayed his cause.
"RATHER THAN HOLDING OFFICE DISHONORABLY..."
It has been seen by everyone that Ömer Kılıç did not act with merit in representing the 75 thousand citizens who voted for him and that he succumbed to personal ambitions and expectations of advancement. Although some alliances have emerged during this process, we would like to express that for us, there is only the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı) and that we will protect the People's Alliance to ensure no harm comes to it. Politics is not an activity carried out dishonorably and with betrayal by selling out one's cause, party, and voters. We engage in politics primarily to serve our nation and to protect our country, our flag, and our call to prayer, and we do this with the nobility, dignity, and honor that befits us. We do not engage in politics by betraying our nation, the voters who cast their ballots for us, the alliance partners we walk with, or our cause and values. We would prefer to be a simple citizen with honor and dignity rather than hold office dishonorably.
"COMPLETELY FALSE AND FABRICATED"
Engaging in politics with lies and deceit does not suit us. It has also emerged that the statement made by Ömer Kılıç to the public, saying 'I became a presidential candidate with the permission of the headquarters,' is completely false and fabricated, according to information confirmed by both our organization president and local administrations. Taking into account these behaviors that mislead the public and humiliate himself, the most correct path for him right now is to resign from the council presidency as soon as possible to recover from the mistake he has fallen into. We see the duty given to us by our citizens as an opportunity to serve them, and we will continue our service. We would like to respectfully announce to the public that we will continue our duties without interruption for the sake of our Niğde, but that until Ömer Kılıç resigns, his presidency is not and will not be legitimate in our eyes, that we will always oppose this, and that this behavior of ours is a principled stance and reaction on behalf of our voters who cast their ballots for us and our Niğde."
