Following İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay's transition to the AKP, one of the first contacts with the party management took place. A delegation led by AKP Secretary General Eyyüp Kadir İnan visited Tugay.
It was stated that the issues on İzmir's agenda, municipal services, and topics regarding the city's future were discussed during the visit. Making a statement after the meeting, AKP İzmir Deputy Şebnem Bursalı said that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had given a special instruction to the organization.
FIRST VISIT FROM THE AKP DELEGATION
In addition to AKP İzmir deputies Mahmut Atilla Kaya, Ceyda Bölünmez Çankırı, Yaşar Kırkpınar, Mustafa Bilici, and Şebnem Bursalı, the visit was also attended by Menemen Mayor Aydın Pehlivan, Çiğli Mayor Onur Emrah Yıldız, Foça Mayor Saniye Bora Fıçı, and Menderes Deputy Mayor Asuman Şen.
Bursalı stated that the meeting took place in a "sincere and constructive" atmosphere, noting that services for İzmir and the pending problems in the city were the priority agenda in the new process.
"Our President and Chairman has a special instruction for all of us in the AK Party organization, starting with us deputies: We will always be supporters of Mr. Cemil in terms of providing services to İzmir."
According to Bursalı, Tugay's assessment that "It is now time for action, not words" was also brought up during the meeting. Bursalı stated that this approach is important for İzmir and the people of İzmir, adding that communication should be solution-oriented rather than focused on political debates.
In the statement, it was expressed that in addition to İzmir's infrastructure, transportation, and environmental issues, citizens' expectations regarding municipal services were also discussed.
ERDOĞAN'S INSTRUCTION TO THE ORGANIZATION REGARDING CEMIL TUGAY
Bursalı also said that Tugay shared his impressions regarding his meeting with President Erdoğan. According to Bursalı, Tugay was impressed by Erdoğan's knowledge of İzmir's problems and the courtesy shown to him during the reception at the Presidential Palace.
Bursalı conveyed that Tugay said, "I will never forget the courtesy and the value our President showed to me and my wife for the rest of my life."
Touching upon the reactions of İzmir citizens to Cemil Tugay's transition to the AKP, Bursalı stated that different opinions are natural. Bursalı expressed that the priority of the citizens is to solve problems that affect daily life, increase the quality of life, and carry out municipal services more effectively.
