AKP founder Çelik criticizes treatment of İmamoğlu! 'Forcing the will of the people...'

Hüseyin Çelik, a founder of the AKP and former Minister of National Education, made evaluations regarding the current agenda on SÖZCÜ TV. Expressing his criticisms of the government, Çelik also criticized the actions taken against İmamoğlu. Çelik stated, "At the point we have reached today, there are things that bother me a lot regarding the '3Ys' (corruption, poverty, and bans). I say this on various occasions."

"THERE ARE THINGS THAT BOTHER ME A LOT"

Çelik said, "When the AKP came to power, it fought against bans. There were great efforts to remove the bans in front of the citizens. It fought against poverty and corruption. At the point we have reached today, there are things that bother me a lot regarding the '3Ys'. I say this on various occasions."

Çelik used the following expressions:

"We should not do to others what we do not want to be done to us. In 1998, a ban was imposed on Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. His mayorship was revoked and he was sent to prison. I was in the True Path Party (DYP) that day, and I reacted strongly. Even though we were in the same party, I found it unjust and unlawful. The fundamental problem in Turkey is this: we only speak up when injustice is done to us."

"YOU CANNOT ARM-WRESTLE WITH THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE"

"The detention of Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu on March 19 is unacceptable; depriving people of the right to protest has caused wounds that are impossible to heal. It should not be forgotten that the AK Party came to power by going through similar paths. What was done to Mr. Erdoğan and the AK Party that day was wrong, and what is being done to Mr. İmamoğlu and the CHP today is also wrong. You cannot arm-wrestle with the will of the people.

I find it extremely justified and democratic that our CHP friends are objecting to the cancellation of Mr. İmamoğlu's diploma and his imprisonment, and that they are holding protest demonstrations."

ADDRESSING HIS OWN CIRCLE

"When Mr. Tayyip Erdoğan was banned that day, the supporters of tutelage danced with joy. What is done to me today will be done to you tomorrow. I am saying this especially to my own circle. While we argue about Ahmet or Mehmet, we are not discussing the essence, the core, or the system. Whoever holds the power considers themselves right. The one who is right should be powerful, but the one who is powerful should not consider themselves right. At the point we have reached, I do not see Turkey in a good place at all."
