AKP insists on a new constitution: 'Presented to Erdoğan'
AKP Deputy Chairman Hayati Yazıcı stated, "We are determined to create a new social contract for breakthroughs that will make our country and our nation the subject of history." At the third workshop held for the new constitution, the scope and protection of fundamental rights and freedoms were discussed.
The AKP held its third workshop as part of its efforts for a new constitution. Academics specializing in constitutional law, public law, and human rights attended the meeting held at the party headquarters. While the main theme of the workshop was determined as "Fundamental Rights in the New Constitution," critical issues such as the scope, characteristics, and protection of fundamental rights and freedoms were addressed.
WHAT IS ON THE WORKSHOP'S AGENDA?
The following topics were discussed at the workshop, which was organized under the coordination of the AKP's Department of Political and Legal Affairs:
How should fundamental rights and freedoms be regulated in the new constitution?
What should be the place and systematics of fundamental rights within the constitution?
How should the scope and limits of rights and freedoms be determined?
How should constitutional tools and mechanisms to protect fundamental rights and freedoms be designed?
What innovations can be added to the current constitutional regulations?
The academics participating in the workshop presented their findings, suggestions, and evaluations regarding these topics. All these contributions will be compiled into a report and presented to the party leadership.
STATEMENT ON THE NEW CONSTITUTION FROM HAYATİ YAZICI
AKP Deputy Chairman Hayati Yazıcı emphasized in his statement after the workshop that the party is working with determination for a new and civilian constitution. Yazıcı said, "We reiterate our call to all political parties, without putting forward any preconditions, to create a civilian and inclusive constitution whose founder is the nation. In this period when global and regional changes are accelerating, we are determined to make a social contract that will make our nation the subject of history."
Yazıcı stated that the results obtained from the previous two workshops were compiled into reports and presented to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He said that the results of the third workshop would also be compiled into a report and submitted to the President.
Yazıcı expressed that the workshops are important steps toward shaping the "architectural design" of the new constitution. The goal is to design the new constitution within a framework that strengthens fundamental rights and freedoms and makes protection mechanisms more effective.
