AKP's Tevfik Göksu to collaborate with Bilal Erdoğan! A flurry of authorizations from the Council
Esenler Mayor Tevfik Göksu of the AKP has been granted full signatory authority for projects to be carried out with the World Ethnosport Confederation, chaired by Bilal Erdoğan, and the Yeşilay (Green Crescent) branch managed by an AKP council member. The new powers granted to Göksu have reignited claims that public resources are being transferred to associations and foundations close to the government.
Esenler Mayor Tevfik Göksu of the AKP has returned to the spotlight following new powers granted during the May session of the Municipal Council. Göksu was granted full authority for protocols to be signed with the World Ethnosport Confederation, chaired by Bilal Erdoğan, the son of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. A similar signatory authority was granted for projects to be carried out with the Yeşilay Esenler Branch, which is chaired by AKP Council Member Zühre Bektaş.
According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün Newspaper, the first proposal submitted to the Municipal Council requested the establishment of a cooperation protocol with the World Ethnosport Confederation and the granting of separate signatory authority to Mayor Mehmet Tevfik Göksu and Deputy Mayor Kenan Yaşar within this scope. The proposal stated that youth from Esenler would be enabled to participate in the 7th Ethnosport Culture Festival, to be held on May 22-25, 2025. The proposal in question was accepted by majority vote.
A FAVOR FOR THE AKP COUNCIL MEMBER VIA YEŞİLAY
The second proposal brought to the Council's agenda was the cooperation protocol with the Yeşilay Esenler Branch. Göksu and Deputy Mayor Mehmet Kamil Ayata were again granted full signatory authority for projects to be carried out with the branch, which is led by AKP Council Member Zühre Bektaş. It was learned that this proposal passed unanimously.
These decisions have brought with them debates regarding the allocation of public resources to individuals and institutions close to the government. The fact that Göksu has previously come to the agenda with similar powers has led to renewed questioning regarding the distribution of authority and oversight mechanisms in municipalities.
