AKP Deputy Chairman Mustafa Demir responded to criticisms directed at the party due to the judicial investigation conducted into the Yahşihan Municipality in Kırıkkale through a statement on his social media account.
Demir stated that former Yahşihan Mayor Ahmet Sungur was definitively expelled from the AKP on November 4, 2025, and that Acting Mayor Aydın Demirdirek was referred to the disciplinary board with a request for definitive expulsion on November 25, 2025. Demir noted that Demirdirek has continued his duties as an independent in the subsequent period.
Emphasizing in his statement that the party's internal proceedings in question took place before the current corruption investigation into the municipality, Demir argued that the AKP's institutional identity was being targeted.
In his post, Demir stated, "The AK Party does not stand behind anyone who uses the nation's trust for personal gain. We do not accept the individual actions of persons being portrayed as the institutional responsibility of our party."
Noting that individuals whose crimes are proven by court decisions must be held accountable before the law, Demir stated that they expect any public damages to be recovered from those responsible.
