AKP responds to Burcu Köksal question!

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik answered questions from members of the press within the scope of SAHA EXPO 2026. While making evaluations on current issues, Çelik was also asked about the claims that Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal would join the AKP.

HE DID NOT GIVE A CLEAR ANSWER TO THE BURCU KÖKSAL QUESTION

Speaking upon the question posed by members of the press, Ömer Çelik did not make a statement directly confirming or denying the claims that Burcu Köksal would switch to the AKP.

In his evaluation of the subject, Çelik pointed to the meetings that the AKP will organize next week.

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik used the following expressions in his statement:

"Friends, you already see the mayors who will join our party in the, you know; you see them at our provincial chairs meeting, at our group meetings. Therefore, you are all already following those meetings. You will see the developments there."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

A striking 'transfer' claim regarding CHP's Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal came to the agenda. It was alleged that Köksal would switch to the AKP along with Ankara Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan, who resigned from his party some time ago.

The claim has reignited debates in politics regarding mayors changing parties.

It was stated that Köksal has not yet denied the claims brought to the agenda by some journalists working for media outlets close to the government. It was also alleged that CHP executives could not reach Köksal and could not get an answer to their phone calls.

In the lobbies, it was claimed that Köksal confirmed to some journalists who spoke with her that she would join the AKP, saying, "I am tired of the struggle with the CHP."

It was also alleged that Köksal met with President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. According to the claim, Köksal will join the AKP at the AKP Extended Provincial Chairs Meeting to be held on Tuesday, May 12.
