AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik reacts to CHP's Namık Tan over 'Blue Homeland': 'Irresponsible and unbecoming'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Namık Tan used the phrase 'Blue Homeland fairy tale' during his speech at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

Tan's remarks drew a reaction from AKP Spokesperson and Deputy Chairman Ömer Çelik.

Responding to Tan via his social media account, Çelik stated the following:

“It is unacceptable, irresponsible, and unbecoming for CHP MP Namık Tan to call the ‘Blue Homeland’ a ‘fairy tale.’ This is an approach that has lost its political compass, supporting Greece’s so-called theses against Turkey’s national policy. It appears that the foreign policy strategist in the CHP who called the ‘Blue Homeland’ an ‘expansionist policy’ has been replaced by another who calls it a ‘fairy tale.’ For some CHP MPs to speak with this approach against our national policy and repeatedly adopt so-called theses used by other states against Turkey is a political drift and irresponsibility. Our Blue Homeland is an inseparable part of our Motherland. We will continue to fight to protect our national rights, interests, and concerns in the Blue Homeland. Under the roof of our Supreme Assembly, the words of those who have drifted to the point of defending the claims of Greece and other states go no further than being a ‘political fairy tale.’ It would be a healthier path for those writing political fairy tales similar to Greece’s claims to prioritize protecting Turkey’s rights in the Aegean and the Mediterranean as soon as possible.”
