AKP statement on pensions: 'We need to discuss premium amounts and retirement age again'
AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler made significant statements regarding the regulations to be implemented for pension differences between 2024 and 2025. Güler also stated, "We need to discuss premium amounts and retirement age again."
The difference in pension payments regulated for the transition between 2024 and 2025 has become a matter of curiosity for prospective retirees.
As the details of the new regulation being prepared by the AKP government emerge, warnings are being issued that the increased demand for retirement by the end of 2024 could create a backlog crisis.
Speaking about the regulation on a television program, AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler said, "Within the Social Security Institution, the Pension Fund, civil servants are in a separate status, public workers are in a different status, and the SGK and Bağ-Kur have their own statuses. When we examine these, we see that there are no significant differences regarding the 2024-2025 period."
Güler said the following in his statement:
'WE WILL LOOK AT THE ROADMAP'
"For some, there is a situation where it affects them very little in terms of age and duration, while for others it affects them more. Let us present the impact analysis clearly; how many people are affected? How many people have qualified for retirement in 2024? Is the difference due to the reflection of inflation adjustments stemming from the pension calculation rates between them, or is there another situation involving a legal regulation? Our colleagues are currently working on this. Once the numerical data emerges, we will draw up a roadmap. Our Ministry of Labor and Social Security and our Ministry of Treasury and Finance are working together to ensure it is equitable, fair, sustainable, and without causing injustice to anyone. The report will emerge in the coming weeks."
'WE WILL LOOK IF NECESSARY'
"Let us see the situation, even if it concerns just one person. It is not related to current retirees; it concerns those who have qualified for retirement as of 2024 and are continuing their working life. Could it present a difference when retirement is in question in 2025, 2026, or subsequent years? Even if it presents a difference, could it cause a grievance? We will see this. If a legal regulation is necessary, we will look for a reasonable solution."
'WE ARE TRYING TO TOP IT UP TO 12,500 LIRA'
"There is definitely a need for social security. The most special concept of our day is sustainability. We need to implement a more equitable pension system. Look at developed Western societies; you cannot retire at the ages of 45 or 50 there. There is the EYT (Retirement at Age of Entitlement), there are many burdens coming from the past. Every year, we are trying to support our retirees who receive low pensions by using a very high amount of resources from our central budget to top them up to 12,500 lira. We need to discuss premium amounts and retirement age again. How can we sustain this from the past to the present? How can we collect more realistic premiums? We need to discuss all of these."
