Akşener's 50+1 response to Erdoğan: 'Good morning, Mr. Erdoğan'

The remarks made by AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan regarding the removal of the 50+1 requirement, which he brought to the agenda upon his return from Germany, have sparked reactions from politicians. Responding to Erdoğan at her party's group meeting, IYI Party leader Meral Akşener said, "Good morning, Mr. Erdoğan," and called on the AKP to enter the elections alone. Akşener did not address the internal party resignations.

Akşener's 50+1 response to Erdoğan: 'Good morning, Mr. Erdoğan'

Discussions in politics regarding the removal of the 50+1 requirement, which AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan brought to the agenda upon his return from Germany, continue.

Meanwhile, the wave of resignations within the IYI Party continues unabated.

Whether Akşener would make a statement regarding the resignations and the 50+1 system was a matter of curiosity.

50+1 STATEMENT

Highlights from Akşener's statements are as follows:

Before the elections, the AK Party, which promised that interviews would be abolished and that candidates would be appointed based on their KPSS scores, has once again fallen into silence after the elections... They are looking at the sky and whistling... They gave their word to tens of thousands of my young teacher brothers and sisters; but after getting what they wanted, they went back on their word without shame, without embarrassment, and without blushing.

They want to change the 50+1 system. And they are doing it through the spokesmanship of Mr. Erdoğan himself. Good morning to you, Erdoğan. We already told you back in 2017 that the presidential government system would become a burden for you. That is why we said no back then.

Despite all our warnings, you insisted on being wrong. Good morning, Mr. Erdoğan.

Who lost in this process? Once again, it was our noble nation. Turkish politics became condemned to alliances.

My dear friends; at the end of the path that the AK Party government took by saying, “This country has suffered enough from coalitions,” Turkish politics has become condemned to alliances. After all these years, Mr. Erdoğan must have finally understood; just recently, he came out and said; “Currently, the 50+1 obligation is leading parties down the wrong paths. It is unclear whose hand is in whose pocket...” That is exactly what he said... In other words; he himself is complaining about the alliance system that is entirely his own creation and which they stubbornly imposed on Turkey... It is truly a cautionary tale...

The infighting within the People's Alliance; the problems between partners; the messages sent from the parliamentary podiums; of course, concern them, not us. But there is a fact that stands before us: the alliance system imposed by the 50+1 requirement condemns our nation to being caught between two fists. Our nation is being stripped of its status as the benefactor and reduced to a number, leaving them without options in their political preferences. The political order squeezed into +1 opens space for lack of identity, lack of personality, and lack of principles. And politics conducted in this way deeply wounds our nation's trust in political institutions.

That is why we, as the IYI Party, because we opposed this corruption caused by the alliance system;

With the 2024 local elections, we paved the way for free and independent politics. Indeed; last August, we issued a call to all political parties. We said, “Come, let us enter the elections separately; let us create a competitive environment where our citizens can freely reflect their preferences.” We said, “Let us remove Turkish politics from the spiral of political pragmatism it is currently in, which works against our nation.” We said, “Come, let us compete to serve our nation, not for seats.”

"ENTER THE ELECTION ALONE"

Since Mr. Erdoğan is also so uncomfortable with the alliance system imposed by the 50+1 requirement; then, I am addressing him directly from here: Come, as the AK Party; just like us, prevent the alliance system from being imposed on our country. Come, to open the clogged breath of Turkish democracy; take a step, just like us. Come, for the upcoming elections; as the AK Party, show the courage to enter alone, just like the IYI Party!

But Mr. Erdoğan; if your purpose in making this statement is to hide behind a constitutional amendment and change the two-term rule along with the system; then, excuse me, but you will be waiting a long time!

If you are doing all this to be able to run for office one more time; excuse me, but you will be waiting a long time!

"THEY ARE DISCUSSING THE IYI PARTY"

My dear fellow travelers; as you know, we are going through interesting days. On one side, the so-called opposition press. On the other, the pro-government press. Two poles that live happily ever after while sandwiching Turkey; have united against the IYI Party... Everyone is busy discussing the IYI Party together. How happy for us...

What is it? The IYI Party is in a difficult situation... Look at that!... Those who did not keep any of the promises they made to the voters are comfortable; those who crushed our nation under inflation are comfortable; those who turned the country into a haven for illegal crossings are comfortable; but the IYI Party, which is impatient to take the authority and set Turkey straight, is in a difficult situation...

"THOSE WHO PRODUCED THE LIE THAT WE WOULD WIN WITH 60 PERCENT..."

Those who handed the elections to Mr. Erdoğan together are comfortable; those who sacrificed Turkey to settle their internal party scores are comfortable; the 60-percent cheerleaders and soda-can enthusiasts are comfortable; but the IYI Party, which was proven right in all its objections and whose words are only now being understood, is in a difficult situation... Yesterday; those who produced the lie that “we will win with 60 percent”; today, they come out and generate new lies about the IYI Party. Let them. We are used to it now. Because their nature is like this... They should not expect any apologies: In the IYI Party; the sun is in its place, everything is fine...

THE DEBATE OVER THE WINNABLE CANDIDATE

What we are experiencing is definitely not a coincidence. Remember: Yesterday; if our words had been heeded and we had gone to the ballot box with a candidate that our nation demanded from us; who would that have upset the most? Of course, it would have upset the palace and its entourage... That is why they attacked us for saying “winnable candidate”; but they did not touch the fools who said “we will win with 60 percent.”

THE PALACE IS APPREHENSIVE

Who is most apprehensive about the IYI Party's free and independent politics? Of course, the palace and its entourage are apprehensive. So, in your opinion; why do the palace media and trolls support the known circles that put alliance pressure on the IYI Party? The reason is very clear! Because; they are afraid that our party identity, which became blurred within the alliance, is now clearly visible. Because; they are afraid that the walls they built between our nation and the IYI Party will be removed. Because; they are afraid because we have no wounds they can pick at, no vulnerabilities they can exploit, with our independent identity! Because; they are afraid that the mud stuck to the alliances will not stick to the IYI Party!
