Ali Babacan's striking statement on illegal betting and virtual gambling: 'There are betting and gambling sites that Erdoğan allows to operate'
DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan drew attention to the prevalence of illegal betting and virtual gambling in Turkey, stating, "There are legal virtual betting and gambling sites that Mr. Erdoğan personally allows to operate. The country's President turns a blind eye to betting and gambling that is operated with licenses he personally authorized."
Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) Chairman Ali Babacan addressed the growing problem of illegal betting and virtual gambling in Turkey during his speech at the Yeni Yol group meeting.
Babacan stated that this issue is a major problem for the country and recounted the difficulties faced by a mother he met in Eyüpsultan.
While emphasizing how virtual gambling affects young people, Babacan noted that university students' bank accounts are specifically being used for this business. Ali Babacan said, "They have young people open accounts, take their passwords, and conduct transactions. The result: young people going to jail and devastated families." He shared that a mother working in a textile workshop lost two apartments because of her son's virtual gambling, and that another woman's nephew had fallen into the same situation.
CRITICISM OF LEGAL GAMBLING SITES
Babacan noted that President Erdoğan personally allows virtual gambling and betting, saying, "Even though the government claims to be fighting illegal gambling, there are also sites that have been granted licenses with Erdoğan's signature."
TOTAL VOLUME OF 272 BILLION LIRA
Babacan also revealed the destruction caused by virtual gambling in society with figures. Stating that the total transaction volume on one gambling site is 272 billion lira, he said that this situation creates devastating effects on young people and families.
