Ali Mahir Başarır's reaction to Erdoğan regarding the lieutenants: 'If you are going to clean up the army, you should clean up the sects'

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır responded to the remarks made by Erdoğan while speaking at the Imam Hatip Graduates Assembly, where he said, "Recently, at a graduation ceremony, some opportunists emerged and drew swords. Who are you drawing these swords against? All necessary investigations regarding them are being conducted, and those few who don't know their place will be purged." 

Criticizing Erdoğan for targeting young lieutenants, CHP's Başarır said, "If you are going to clean up the army, you should clean up that structure that was placed there through lists received from obscure sects."

'YOUR PARTY IS DIVIDED'

Recalling the statements of AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, who said, "It is never acceptable for those who try to create tutelage through these young members of the Armed Forces, nor for those who insult these young members of the Armed Forces," Başarır said, "You are uncomfortable with those lieutenants and soldiers saying 'We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.' The MHP Deputy Chairman says he is honored. Devlet Bahçeli attacks them. You haven't even decided yet, are those children heroes or criminals? Your party is divided," he said.

DO NOT MAKE THEM POLITICAL MATERIAL 

CHP's Başarır continued his words as follows:

"That sword-crossing tradition exists in the history of lieutenants and soldiers. If you are going to purge a structure from the army, first of all, just like with FETÖ, you should remove from the army those types of soldiers who bombed this Parliament and this country, and whom you placed into the capillaries of the army. You should not take lists from obscure sects like Menzil or İsmailağa. If you are going to clean up the army, you should clean up the structure that was placed there through lists received from obscure sects. Those children were born and raised in many parts of Anatolia, received their education, and will defend this homeland tomorrow in remote villages and mountains where birds don't fly. Do not make them political material. Do not slander them to change the perception of the country, the economy, and the foreign policy that you cannot manage. Do not build your perception through the army or through Atatürk. Do not slander those young officers to change the perception."
