All eyes on the CHP Bylaw Congress: Date to be determined

Having left the congress process behind, all eyes in the CHP have turned to the bylaw congress.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will first chair the Central Executive Board (MYK) on Monday at 11:00 AM. The CHP PM meeting will also be held on the same day at 2:00 PM under Özel's leadership.

AMNESTY REQUESTS WILL ALSO BE DISCUSSED

At the PM meeting, which will begin with Özel's presentation, the first item on the agenda will be the amnesty requests of those previously expelled from the party.

The most important agenda item for the PM will be the Bylaw Congress, which the previous administration had planned to hold at the end of November but for which no decision had been finalized.

The date for the "Bylaw Congress," which 81 provincial chairs who met on November 14 requested to be held after the local elections, will be finalized at this meeting.

WHAT WILL BE IN THE NEW BYLAWS?

CHP Chairman Özel had stated at his party's 38th Ordinary Congress, held on November 4-5, that they would prepare more democratic bylaws.

With the changes to be made at the congress, for which the date is expected to be finalized at the PM, a membership reform will be carried out.

By developing methods where members have an effective say directly in elections at every level, overcoming the limitations imposed by current regulations, the "will of the member" will be made the foundation of the party.

In the CHP's new bylaws, while it is envisioned that the chairman will be elected by all members, the "open list" method with the participation of active members will be taken as the basis for neighborhood, district, and provincial congresses.

A primary election requirement will be introduced for the determination of parliamentary, mayoral, and municipal council candidates.

ZIPPER METHOD TO BE APPLIED, PM MEMBERSHIP TO INCREASE

Another change planned for the CHP's bylaws will be innovations that will ensure increased representation of women, youth, and people with disabilities in party organs and candidate lists. The "zipper method" will be applied in the election of party organs. Thus, equal representation of women, youth, and people with disabilities in party management will be ensured.

In the new bylaws, management and delegations that must be determined for legal reasons will be formed through proportional representation.

The number of members of the PM, the party's highest decision-making body, will also be increased with the new bylaws. The PM will be structured to include at least one representative from each province, appropriate to its size. Two-thirds of the MYK members will be elected by the PM, and it will be essential for MYK members appointed by the Chairman to receive a vote of confidence from the PM.
