Allegations of a special quota for DEM Party in HSK elections

Zafer Party Spokesperson Azmi Karamahmutoğlu has claimed that a special quota will be reserved for the DEM Party in the upcoming HSK elections.

Speaking to Cumhuriyet, Karamahmutoğlu stated, "They have reached an agreement with the DEM Party to avoid making a deal with the CHP and IYI Party and to avoid leaving the selection to a draw. In this way, they will secure the two-thirds majority required for the elections in Parliament. This ratio is also the number required for constitutional amendments. This situation will be a trial run for reaching a majority for constitutional changes."

While the TBMM elects 7 of the 11 members of the HSK, the remaining 4 members are appointed by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In 2021, a consensus was reached between the People's Alliance and the Nation Alliance in the TBMM Joint Committee to prevent the candidate selection process from being left to a draw. As a result of this agreement, 3 of the 7 members were elected from the AKP, 2 from the IYI Party, and 1 member each from the CHP and MHP.

DEM PARTY'S ROADMAP TO BE DETERMINED

The DEM Party will convene its Central Executive Committee (MYK) on April 11 to evaluate the new resolution process following the call for disarmament and dissolution made by PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 27.

Strategies to be followed regarding the process will be discussed at the meeting. Under the leadership of Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, meetings of the Party Assembly, provincial co-chairs, and the central executive committee had previously been held.
