Allegations of irregularity at the CHP Convention: Case moved to high criminal court
The indictment regarding allegations of irregularity at the CHP Convention has been transferred from the Criminal Court of First Instance to the high criminal court.
The prosecutor's office has prepared an indictment against 12 suspects, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, and CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik.
KILIÇDAROĞLU IS THE 'VICTIM', LÜTFÜ SAVAŞ IS THE 'COMPLAINANT'
The prepared indictment requests up to 3 years of imprisonment for each of the suspects for the crime of 'violating the Law on Political Parties'. In the indictment, where former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is listed as the 'victim' and former Hatay Mayor Lütfü Savaş as the 'complainant', it is also requested that the suspects be banned from politics for the duration of their sentences.
The indictment prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office states that the investigation was launched after CHP delegates, party members, and council members themselves alleged in various print and visual media outlets during and after the convention process that money was paid and certain promises were made to delegates who supported Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to instead support Özgür Özel during the 38th Ordinary CHP Convention.
'LACK OF JURISDICTION' DECISION ISSUED
While the indictment prepared regarding the CHP Convention was accepted by the Ankara 26th Criminal Court of First Instance, a decision of lack of jurisdiction was issued on the grounds that the charges constitute 'bribery', and the case was sent to the high criminal court.
