Alliance talks had stalled: YRP sends 'debt of gratitude' message to AKP

Political parties continue to announce their mayoral candidates for the local elections on March 31, 2024.

The Yeniden Refah Party (YRP), which was part of the People's Alliance with the support of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the May elections, has announced former AKP deputies as its mayoral candidates in Şanlıurfa and Elazığ.

"I AM NOT VERY HOPEFUL"

According to the report by Cumhuriyet, YRP Deputy Chairman Mehmet Altınöz, in a statement regarding the alliance talks with the AKP, which were interrupted for a while but are currently ongoing, "YRP officials and AKP officials held a meeting on Monday evening. We had stated that the delegation should come with concrete proposals. But not much has changed. Let's see what path we will take in the 4th meeting, but I am not very hopeful." he said.

DEBT OF LOYALTY REMARK

Emphasizing that Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was elected president in the May 14-28 elections with the support of the YRP, Altınöz "We expect AKP officials to pay their debt of loyalty in the local elections" he stated.

Noting that they are also nearing the end of determining their candidates for Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, Altınöz said, "If an alliance does not materialize in the near future, we will announce our own candidates and continue on our path."
