As the fund investigation and the associated debates over purges continue, claims regarding potential changes in the cabinet and high-level bureaucracy have returned to the AKP agenda. It is suggested that not only personnel changes but also the election calendar and options for renewing the party administration are being evaluated in the corridors.
According to insider information reported by journalist Nuray Babacan, terms like “cleansing” and “purification” have begun to be used more frequently in internal party assessments due to the political impact of the investigation on the ruling party. It was stated that some party officials have expressed discomfort with the delay in the process and the difficulty in making public statements.
In her article, Babacan reported that some figures, who believe that the process regarding the family of AKP member Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya has been handled too slowly, are questioning when the investigation will begin and why statements have not been taken. It was stated that this group argues that with the opening of Parliament, the issue has become harder to explain to both the opposition and the public.
SNAP ELECTION ON THE TABLE!
It is noted that different assessments are being made in the corridors regarding what path AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will follow. According to one view, there is a desire to form a new team through a comprehensive change in the cabinet, bureaucracy, and party administration; and to evaluate the option of an early or snap election before the debates regarding the fund investigation grow further, following salary increases for low-income earners.
It was reported that those who advocate for the second view are in favor of using the election calendar until the very end. In this scenario, it is proposed to wait until 2028, renew party cadres through an extraordinary congress during this process, take steps to reduce the effects of the fund crisis, and seek solutions to economic problems.
In the third approach, the view that the delay could increase economic fragility stands out. Therefore, it is argued that a rapid and comprehensive change process should be initiated to restore confidence. Conversely, the assessment that Erdoğan might leave radical personnel changes for a period closer to the election process is also among the topics discussed in the corridors.
NAMES DISCUSSED FOR MINISTRIES
It has been suggested that different names are being brought up for certain ministries in the cabinet reshuffle rumors. Accordingly, it is being discussed that changes could be made to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Trade, and that some ministers could be shifted to other positions.
In the corridors, while the name of Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance İlhan Hatipoğlu is mentioned for the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, it is claimed that DEİK President Nail Olpak or TMSF President Fatin Rüştü Karakaş could be evaluated for the Ministry of Trade.
It was suggested that Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum could be shifted to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and in that case, the name of Zero Waste Foundation President Samed Ağırbaş could come to the agenda for the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. On the Treasury and Finance side, it is being discussed that Revenue Administration President Bekir Bayraktar could be appointed as a deputy minister.
