Anti-Atatürk former AKP mayor becomes MHP candidate

As the local elections approach, political parties continue to announce their mayoral candidates.

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) submitted its lists of mayoral candidates and council members to provincial and district election boards the day before yesterday.

One name among the MHP's candidates did not go unnoticed.

Former AKP Altınyayla Mayor Necmettin Mermer has become the MHP's mayoral candidate for the Şarkışla district of Sivas.

It has emerged that while serving as mayor, Mermer insulted the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk via his social media accounts. It was also observed that Mermer targeted "Kemalism and secularism" in his posts.

In one of the posts in question, Mermer used the expression, "Hostility toward Erdoğan; by making a person say 'Turkey is secular and will remain secular' on the night of Berat; puts their faith in danger," while in another, he stated, "For 80 years, the thing that has gained the most premium in this country is Kemalism. Unfortunately, the person most exploited is Mustafa Kemal. Enough with letting them be appetizers for Zionist servants."
