Are trustees being appointed to Tunceli and Ovacık? Prison sentences for Cevdet Konak and Mustafa Sarıgül
DEM Party Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak and CHP Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül have each been sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for "membership in a terrorist organization." Following the recent appointment of trustees to Esenyurt, Halfeti, Mardin, and Batman, the question of whether trustees will be appointed to Ovacık and Tunceli has become a subject of public interest.
DEM Party Tunceli Mayor Cevdet Konak and CHP Ovacık Mayor Mustafa Sarıgül have received their verdicts in the case in which they were being tried.
Both individuals were sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for "membership in a terrorist organization."
A travel ban was also imposed on the mayors.
WILL TRUSTEES BE APPOINTED TO TUNCELI AND OVACIK?
The amendment made by Decree-Law No. 674 regulates the appointments to be made in place of mayors, deputy mayors, or council members who are subject to proceedings due to crimes related to terrorism or aiding and abetting terrorist organizations.
Accordingly, in cases where they are suspended from duty, arrested, or banned from public service, the appointment of a mayor, deputy mayor, or council member is made by the Minister of Interior for metropolitan and provincial municipalities, and by the governor for other municipalities.
