Arrest warrant issued for civil servant who assaulted Tonya Mayor Beşel in his office

One of two civil servants alleged to have assaulted AKP Mayor of Tonya, Osman Beşel, in his office in Trabzon's Tonya district has been arrested. The other civil servant was released under judicial control conditions.

According to the information received, civil servants H.K. (64) and H.U. (63), who work at Tonya Municipality, learned that a report had been filed against them for failing to comply with working hours. They entered Mayor Osman Beşel's office and began arguing with him. One of the civil servants headbutted Mayor Beşel, while the other struck him with a slap. Other staff members who heard the commotion entered the room and intervened to remove the civil servants, while police and medical teams were called to the municipality.

Mayor Osman Beşel went to the District State Hospital to obtain a medical report for the assault and filed a complaint against the two civil servants. The two municipal employees were detained by police on charges of 'insulting a public official,' 'damaging public property,' and 'deprivation of liberty.' The two detained municipal employees were brought before a duty court in Tonya today. H.U. was arrested, while H.K. was released under judicial control conditions.

In his statement to the police regarding the attack in his office, Mayor Osman Beşel reportedly said, "While I was in my office, H.U. and H.K., against whom I had previously written a request for written defense, entered my office through the secretary's door. After entering the room, H.U. went to the protocol door and checked whether it was open. Seeing that the door lock was unlocked, he locked the door from behind. After H.U. entered, he extended the defense request I had previously written to them toward me aggressively, saying, 'What is this letter?' and tore up the document I had written. I told them, 'Let's sit down.' The individuals said to me, 'We are not sitting.' I asked them, 'Did you come to hold me accountable?' Both of them walked toward me saying, 'Yes, we came to hold you accountable, and here we are doing it.' Both individuals came up to my office chair with the intent to strike and began hitting me with their fists. I tried to fend off their blows by pushing them away with my hands. I called out to my municipal employee A.İ. A.İ. and police officer A.Ç. entered the room. While they were trying to pull the individuals away from me, the person named H.U. headbutted me in the face area and reached for the weapon at his waist. However, those present prevented him from taking his weapon."
