Aziz Çelik reacts to Nevşin Mengü: You misled the public

Journalist Nevşin Mengü had shared Istanbul Governor Davut Gül's statement regarding the May 1st celebrations in Taksim on her social media account.

In her post, Mengü said "Don't shoot the messenger" and included the following statements:

I spoke with Istanbul Governor Davut Gül. Gül said that the permit application submitted to them did not mention Taksim, but only specified a rally in Saraçhane, and that the police took precautions accordingly.

Prof. Dr. Aziz Çelik stated that this post by Mengü 'misled the public' and reacted by saying, "Ms. Nevşin, I wish you had researched whether an application was made to the Governor's Office for May 1st in Taksim in the face of this strange claim by the Governor!"

'I WISH YOU HAD RESEARCHED IT!'

Stating that a written application for Taksim was submitted to the Governor's Office by DİSK on April 25, Çelik also shared a screenshot of this application.

In his response to Nevşin Mengü, Çelik included the following words:

I wish you had researched it! I wish you had verified this strange and untrue claim by the Governor! Thus, you would not have carried untrue and misleading information to the public. Don't shoot the messenger, but you are a journalist. The Governor misled you, and you, in turn, misled the public. It is not too late! You can access the documents I mentioned and correct this untrue claim by the Governor.
