Democracy and Progress (DEVA) Party Chairman Ali Babacan held a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
Commenting on the release of Ogün Samast, the murderer of former Agos newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink, under the conditional release regulation, Ali Babacan stated that the release did not find resonance in the public conscience.
"IT DID NOT FIND ITS PLACE IN THE PUBLIC CONSCIENCE"
Babacan answered the question regarding the subject as follows:
“We do not yet have a full grasp of all the technical details, but we will have detailed information over time. What is important in these matters is the place in the public conscience. The most important representative of the public conscience is the TBMM. The TBMM is the roof that has a very broad representative power, where our citizens who vote in elections are represented at a very high rate. All these regulations regarding the execution law and the details of their implementation must be discussed under this Assembly. That is why we opposed the regulation of this matter with the omnibus bill on July 12. It is understood that, looking at the discussions from last night to today, whether it is legal is a matter that lawyers should look at technically, but this release is not a development that has found resonance in the public conscience. It has not found its place in the public conscience.”
