Backlash and criticism rain down on Bahçeli: 'They want a Lebanon-like Turkey for US interests'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's proposal that there should be two vice presidents, stating, "Let one be Kurdish and the other Alevi," has sparked controversy in the public eye. The statement was met with varying reactions in various political circles, primarily from the opposition.

Bahçeli's move was also interpreted as a sign of the new constitution debates that have been on the agenda in Turkey for a long time, as well as a potential "opening process."

One of the figures who reacted to the statement was journalist and publisher Haluk Hepkon. In an assessment shared on his social media account, Hepkon claimed that such proposals are shaped in line with US interests. Hepkon stated, "They want a Lebanon-like Turkey for US interests. Their attempts to liquidate the Republic, the İmralı opening, and the demands for a new constitution are all for this reason."

In the continuation of his statement, Hepkon noted that this process could lead to a catastrophe not only for Turks but for all peoples living in Turkey. "Either we will oppose them to the end and defend the republic, or we will endure the consequences of the coming disaster," he said.

While it remains a subject of curiosity to what extent Bahçeli's proposal will become the official policy of the ruling bloc, debates titled "new constitution" and "social consensus" are expected to flare up even more in the coming period.
