Turkey has left the March 31 Local Elections behind.

While the CHP reached a vote share of 37.77 percent to become the leading party across Turkey for the first time in 47 years, the AKP suffered its first defeat in an election since its founding.

Following the local elections, AREA Research Company took the pulse of citizens regarding the general elections. The company announced the results of its parliamentary election poll titled "Turkey Political Situation Research - April 2024."

In the survey, which was conducted between April 20-22 by interviewing 3,062 people in 26 provinces and 92 districts, participants were asked, "Who would you vote for if a parliamentary election were held today?"

According to the results, the CHP became the leading party with 34.4 percent, while the AKP came in second with 32.5 percent.

CHP INCREASED ITS VOTES COMPARED TO MAY, DECLINE IN AKP

The survey also once again highlighted the decline in the AKP. While a 3.1 percent drop in votes was observed for the AKP compared to the 2023 parliamentary election, it was seen that the CHP experienced a 9 percent increase in votes. On the other hand, the decline in the IYI Party and the rise in the YRP drew attention.

According to the research, the ranking of other parties after the distribution of undecided voters is as follows:

• DEM Party 9.9 percent
• MHP 9.1 percent
• New Welfare Party (YRP) 5.6 percent
• Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) 4.0 percent
• IYI Party 3.0 percent
