Former İYİ Party Deputy Chairman Bahadır Erdem explained why he resigned from the İYİ Party on Halk TV.
Former İYİ Party Deputy Chairman Bahadır Erdem explained why he resigned from his party on Halk TV.
Erdem stated, 'I thought that cities like Istanbul and Ankara should not be lost, and that they should remain entirely in the hands of the opposition.'
'I LEFT DUE TO A DIFFERENCE IN PRINCIPLED VIEWS'
Bahadır Erdem used the following expressions in his statements:
"I do not take Kürşad Zorlu's statements personally; I believe my reason for resignation is entirely a principled one. It is not based on resentment or anger. The entire public has understood this as well. If it hadn't been understood, I would have been very sad. What matters is how you know how to leave when you do. A cup of coffee has a forty-year memory. This should be observed both by the one who drinks the coffee and the one who remains behind. I worked very hard. I saw myself. I saw that we had a difference of opinion. This occurred regarding the point of fielding candidates in Istanbul and Ankara in these local elections. This is important to me. Because the upcoming local elections could bring about increasing lawlessness as the AKP wins. Therefore, I thought that cities like Istanbul and Ankara should not be lost and should remain entirely in the hands of the opposition. I think this is very important for opposition voters. I left due to this difference in principled views."
'THEY CANNOT INTIMIDATE ME'
Erdem said, 'They cannot intimidate me; I did not become Bahadır Erdem through politics. During this process, my ideas were never interfered with. Therefore, they cannot intimidate me. Nothing like that happened to me.'
'MS. MERAL DID NOT WANT ME TO GO'
Explaining Meral Akşener's thoughts on this decision, Erdem used the expressions, "My resignation letter was ready after the General Administrative Board meeting. When Ms. Meral Akşener called me, discussions began about 'Is the İYİ Party evolving toward the center-right?' As a law professor, how am I going to change the direction of an established party? Therefore, Ms. Meral knows very well my effort to introduce and accept myself in this party. I did not demand any position. Ms. Meral said to me, 'I understood, I will handle it, do not go.'"
