Bahçeli had accused them of a coup: Three police chiefs return to duty

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli had accused them of "attempting a coup against the government," and the three police chiefs who were suspended as part of the secret witness scandal that emerged at the Ankara Police Department have been reinstated by the Ministry of Interior. The police chiefs have resumed their duties at the Personnel Branch of the Ankara Police Department.

According to the report by T24, Ankara Deputy Police Chief Murat Çelik, Organized Crime Branch Manager Kerem Gökay Öner, and Deputy Manager of the same branch Şevket Demircan had been suspended at the request of Ministry of Interior inspectors due to the secret witness scandal linked to the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization.

In connection with the scandal, Murat Çelik and Şevket Demircan were arrested after it was revealed that the secret witness Serdar Sertçelik had fled abroad. However, while the judicial process is ongoing, the administrative suspension was terminated upon the instruction of Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya.

REINSTATEMENT DECISION MADE

With the decision taken on Thursday, the Ministry of Interior ended the administrative suspension of Çelik, Öner, and Demircan. The three police chiefs were assigned to the personnel pool within the Ankara Police Department. It was reported that they could be appointed to their former positions or equivalent roles in the coming days.

With the removal of the administrative action against them, the three police chiefs have regained their police IDs and service weapons. Furthermore, the deductions made from their salaries during the suspension period will be reimbursed to them.

BAHÇELİ HAD REACTED

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli had initially described the secret witness scandal as a "coup attempt against the government" and harshly criticized the police officers involved. However, it was learned that Bahçeli stepped back from his coup claim after being briefed by Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya.
