Bahçeli's remarks on Şimşek recall the 2002 coalition: 'He had opposed Derviş too!'

Bahçeli's remarks on Şimşek recall the 2002 coalition: 'He had opposed Derviş too!'

10haber columnist Erdal Sağlam stated that MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's "corrupt mentality" outburst regarding Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek's use of the term "local people" is reminiscent of his objections to economic policies during the coalition government period in 2002.

"IT IS KNOWN THAT HE DREW THE MHP'S REACTION"

Noting that Bahçeli had reacted to the radical structural programs implemented by Kemal Derviş, one of the former World Bank vice presidents who was called to the country after the 2001 crisis, Sağlam said, "The MHP's uncompromising stance within the coalition, which began with opposition to Derviş and his economic policies, ultimately resulted in Bahçeli calling for early elections and breaking up the coalition. It is known that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek wants to implement Derviş-like reforms and that he is trusted by the markets for this reason. It is also known that Şimşek's close relationship with international markets, much like Derviş, has drawn the reaction of the MHP, a partner in the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı)."
