Başak Demirtaş had withdrawn: 3 names being discussed for the DEM Party's Istanbul candidacy!

With less than 2 months remaining until the local elections, political parties continue their efforts to determine their candidates.

While Istanbul remains one of the most closely watched cities in these critical elections, the candidacy bid by Başak Demirtaş, wife of Selahattin Demirtaş, had stirred up political circles.

While the DEM Party decided to field a candidate in Istanbul, Başak Demirtaş announced that she was withdrawing from the candidacy.

It has been learned that there are 3 people in the DEM Party's candidate pool for the IMM, as the party has announced it will field a strong candidate in Istanbul.

Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz, following his conversation with a DEM Party official, explained the three names mentioned and the process of Başak Demirtaş's withdrawal from the candidacy:

“Now that Başak Demirtaş has withdrawn, who is in the candidate pool for Istanbul? The first name that comes to mind is DEM Party Group Deputy Chairperson Meral Danış Beştaş. Additionally, the names of Sırrı Sakık and Ali Kenanoğlu are being mentioned.

Assessments such as 'Give us Istanbul, take Selo' all provided an opportunity to re-evaluate the situation. Undoubtedly, there were consultations with Selahattin Demirtaş as well. When Ms. Başak's views were also in this direction, we reached a consensus. Our determination to field the strongest candidate certainly continues.”
