BBP Chairman Destici meets with his party's mayors: 'We did not say "votes first, municipality first"'

Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici met at the party headquarters with the mayors who took office after winning the March 31 Local Administration General Elections in one province, 15 districts, and 9 towns.

In his speech there, Destici conveyed his thanks to Sivas Mayor Adem Uzun, party organizations, candidates who were elected and those who were not, and all voters who cast their ballots, stating that they had evaluated the March 31 elections as a party alongside previous elections.

Destici recalled that they did not field candidates in 30 metropolitan cities and their districts, 51 provincial municipalities, and their associated districts out of sensitivity toward the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı).

"WE EXAMINED EVERYTHING SENSITIVELY"

Explaining that they did not field candidates and instead supported the People's Alliance in regions where there was a possibility of the "political extension of the terrorist organization PKK" winning, Destici noted that the People's Alliance's AK Party candidate won in Bitlis by a margin of only around 200 votes.

BBP Chairman Destici stated the following:

"Today, perhaps Bitlis would have fallen into the hands of 'those who are brewing with DEM,' and the same situation applies to the Şırnak Municipality. We examined everything up to these points with sensitivity. We acted with this sensitivity, keeping in mind the existence of the state, the integrity of the country, and the independence and future of the state. We did not say 'votes first, municipality first.' We said 'my state first, my country first, my nation first,' and we will continue to say so."

Touching upon the allegations that the "National Anthem was not played" and the "Turkish flag was removed" at the opening of the Mardin and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality councils, Destici said that such incidents should not be allowed within democracy.

Destici used the expression, "If our other political parties had carried the same sensitivity that we carry, there would not be so many municipalities won by the political extension of the PKK today."
