BBP Chairman Mustafa Destici: 'I am speaking clearly to those who engage in Islamophobia; if you are not Muslim...'

Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici, at a holiday greeting program held at his party's headquarters, commemorated the innocent people who lost their lives in Gaza with mercy and expressed his wish for Gaza to be victorious and triumphant.

Destici stated that there have been debates recently regarding Turkishness and Islam, and used the expression, "We are the Turkish nation, together with everyone living in this Anatolia, whether they are Kurdish, Turkmen, Laz, Circassian, Albanian, or Bosnian. The name of our nation is Turkish. But this does not mean we ignore these ethnic origins."

Emphasizing that they do not find it correct for the concepts of 'Turkish' and 'from Turkey' to be presented as opposites, Destici said that this is a richness and that they do not accept the nation being divided over this.

Stating that, just like during the February 28 process, there have been attacks on Muslims through Kemalism and nationalism in recent days, Destici expressed that this attack has also clearly emerged through the issue of refugees.

BBP Chairman Destici noted the following:

"This place is the homeland of the Turkish nation and is the Republic of Turkey. In the Treaty of Lausanne, Muslim elements were accepted as founding elements. Non-Muslim elements—Armenians, Jews, Greeks, and Syriacs—were accepted as minorities. I am speaking clearly to those who engage in Islamophobia; if you are not Muslim, declare it, and we will place you in minority status and treat you accordingly.

If you appear to be Muslim on the surface and then attack Islam, or try to protect those who attack Islam and insult its values, this clearly reveals your faith and identity. We look at those who have been doing this in Turkey in recent years; all of them are children of families who took refuge in Turkey in the past. Some took refuge from the Caucasus, some from the Balkans."
