Call to the government from BBP leader Mustafa Destici: 'Let our retirees also be able to sacrifice an animal'

Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici visited his party's district organizations in Ereğli, Halkapınar, and Bozkır in Konya, and subsequently paid a visit to Ümit Akpınar, the district mayor who won the March 31 elections as the CHP candidate.

Destici then moved on to Halkapınar, where his party won the mayoral election, and met with Mayor Mehmet Vardar in his office.

"RETIREE SALARIES REMAINED STAGNANT"

Addressing citizens in front of the municipal building, Destici touched upon the low level of retirement pensions and spoke as follows:

"Last year, in July 2023, a great injustice was done to our retirees. While the salaries of civil servants and workers in the public sector were increased several times over, unfortunately, the salaries of our retirees remained stagnant. A 'base salary' story was invented, and for millions of our retirees, the salary that was 7500 liras remained at 7500 liras. I said then that this was not right, and I am saying it today as well: at the very least, the grievance regarding our retirees should be eliminated this July, and the retirement pension should be raised to at least the level of the minimum wage. At least 10 thousand liras should be given to retirees for Eid al-Adha so that our retirees can also afford to sacrifice an animal."

Destici requested that the inflation adjustment improvement to be made for civil servants in July also be applied to minimum wage earners.

"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

Touching upon the war in Gaza, Destici emphasized that Israel attacks places where people gather and bombs without regard for women, children, civilians, the sick, hospitals, mosques, or schools, stating, "It continues to massacre and kill. Of course, we curse it, of course, we condemn it, but I expect countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as countries that stand for peace and oppose this genocide committed by Israel, to stand up and tell the murderer Israel and Netanyahu 'stop.' Enough is enough."
