Behind-the-scenes activity: Surprise candidate for Ankara from the Victory Party
As local elections approach, parties have entered the final stretch of determining their candidates. Having nominated former Ülkü Ocakları President Azmi Karamahmutoğlu in Istanbul, the Victory Party is now preparing to nominate a surprise name in Ankara.
It has been learned that the Victory Party, which nominated former Ülkü Ocakları President Azmi Karamahmutoğlu in Istanbul and former MHP and DP Provincial President Naşit Birgüvi in Izmir, will also field a surprise candidate for the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality mayoral race.
According to information obtained from behind-the-scenes sources, the Victory Party is set to nominate former UN Development Programme Manager Bartu Soral for the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
The fact that Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ shared a post on his social media account regarding a visit from retired Police Chief Fatih Eryılmaz and Bartu Soral also drew attention. Development economist Bartu Soral had served as a Deputy Chairman during the founding process of the Victory Party, but resigned after a while. Soral later held talks with Prof. Dr. Yusuf Halaçoğlu, who was working on establishing a party, but subsequently parted ways with him as well.
