Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney's testimony revealed! He responds to voice recording allegations

Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, who gave testimony as part of an investigation launched into allegations of election fraud and violations of the Law on Political Parties during the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress elections, stated that his voice is not in the recording and that he learned of the recording through social media.

TESTIMONY LASTED 1 HOUR AND 15 MINUTES

The investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations that the most recent CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress elections were rigged and that the Law on Political Parties was violated is ongoing. As part of the investigation, Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney arrived at the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan to provide his testimony.

Güney went to the prosecutor's floor and gave testimony at the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau for 1 hour and 15 minutes. After his testimony was taken, Güney left the courthouse.

HE RESPONDED TO VOICE RECORDING ALLEGATIONS

In his testimony to the prosecutor, the suspect Güney stated that he listened to the voice recording regarding the allegation that "votes were cast in exchange for money at the congress" on social media and that he was not in the environment where this recording was made. Stating that he has never attended any meeting with the people mentioned in the voice recording, and that he knew one of the names asked of him, Fahrettin Çırak, from his time as a Beşiktaş Municipality CHP council member between 2018-2024, and that Çırak still holds this position, Güney noted that he could not comment on whether the person in the recording was Çırak and that he did not want to cast suspicion on anyone.

Claiming that he did not know most of the names asked of him regarding the investigation, Güney said, "They may be individuals who have served in our party, but I have no acquaintance with them. Ever since this voice recording appeared on social media platforms, I have been a victim of it. Even though I have no connection to it, a perception is being created as if I were present where this voice recording was made, and I am being smeared."

HE DENIED THE ALLEGATIONS

Stating that he does not accept the claims that it is his voice in the recording, Güney explained that he was not a mayor during the period of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency election held in October 2023, but rather a Beşiktaş district council member, and that according to the party bylaws, municipal council members cannot be delegates at the provincial congress or general assembly, and therefore they have no right to vote and did not vote.

In his testimony, where he said he supported Özgür Çelik, one of the provincial chairmanship candidates at the time, and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel at the general congress, Güney noted the following:

"As you asked me, the dates on which Özgür Çelik and Cemal Can Polat, who were candidates for the Istanbul Provincial Presidency, declared their will to be candidates correspond to a process 15-20 days before the election, as far as I remember. In other words, there is no name that announced their candidacy months before the election. Subsequently, the election was already held and Özgür Çelik won the election. I was not present at the meeting where this voice recording was taken. I have no idea who was at the meeting. I also have no information about whether the matters discussed at the meeting took place or not. We do not accept any of the accusations leveled against me."
