BREAKING NEWS... Cem Aydın released under judicial control

CHP Youth Branch President Cem Aydın was taken to the courthouse under police escort to provide a statement as part of an investigation launched into a post he made regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek. After testifying at the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terrorism Crimes Investigation Bureau, Cem Aydın was released by the criminal judgeship of peace under judicial control and a travel ban.

An investigation was launched against Republican People's Party (CHP) Youth Branch President Cem Aydın for "insulting a public official" and "targeting individuals fighting against terrorism" due to a social media post concerning Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek. In a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted: "Reports that CHP Youth Branch President Cem Aydın has been detained are incorrect. The individual was invited to testify. An investigation has been launched for the crimes of insulting a public official and targeting individuals fighting against terrorism regarding the tweet he posted about our Istanbul Chief Prosecutor, Mr. Akın Gürlek."

RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL AND TRAVEL BAN

Although there was no detention warrant, Aydın was taken to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan by eight police officers. After his statement was taken at the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terrorism Crimes Investigation Bureau, he was referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for judicial control.

Cem Aydın was released under judicial control and a travel ban.

CEM AYDIN: MY POST DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A CRIME

In his statement, Cem Aydın said, "The video subject to the investigation consists of our party leader's remarks and content reflected in the media regarding Akın Gürlek. I do not accept the accusations against me."

Aydın defended himself with the following words:

"I serve as the President of the Republican People's Party Youth Branch. All corporate accounts managed on behalf of the Republican People's Party are managed from a single source. I do not have access to corporate accounts or the initiative regarding posts made through those accounts. The video you mentioned is a video prepared by the media and propaganda unit headed by Burhanettin Bulut. As the Youth Branch President, I share the content on the page named CHP Youth Branch on my own page. The video subject to the investigation consists of our party leader's remarks and content reflected in the media regarding Akın Gürlek. I do not think my post constitutes a crime. I do not accept the accusations against me. I request that a decision of non-prosecution be issued regarding me."

FROM ÖZGÜR ÖZEL TO ERDOĞAN

Speaking for the first time regarding the investigation, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's statement to journalist İsmail Küçükkaya is as follows:

"All our deputy chairmen are at the courthouse. Supposedly there is no detention warrant. If there is no detention warrant, the police go and invite the person to testify, or even call them on the phone. They go with 8 police officers and force him to testify. When we ask the police if there is a detention warrant, they say, 'There is no detention warrant that has reached us yet.' They say, 'We need to take you to testify.' If you show up at someone's door and don't even give the police you sent to their door a detention warrant, where is the state, where is the police? Has it not turned into a police state? All our deputy chairmen, our provincial chairman, and our elected colleagues are going to the courthouse. It is understood that he is being accused of using an expression I used previously. I am telling Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that he should remove the intermediaries..."

ÖZGÜR ÇELİK: WE ARE CLOSELY FOLLOWING THE PROCESS

CHP Deputy Chairmen, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik, and party members came to the Istanbul Courthouse to support Cem Aydın.

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik stated on his official X account that Cem Aydın was giving his statement and made the following post:

"There is no power that can judge the commitment of the CHP youth to Atatürk's principles and their love for the homeland. Our Youth Branch President and Party Assembly Member Cem Aydın is giving his statement at this hour. Together with our organization and our lawyers, we are closely following the process at the Çağlayan Courthouse. We stand with our president. You will not be able to intimidate us."
