Breaking News... First statement from İnan Güney following detention order!
Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney denied the allegations by sharing a photo taken with his family on social media before being taken into custody. Güney stated that the slanders against him were untrue.
Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, who was detained as part of the operations involving the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), made a statement via his social media account. Sharing a photo taken with his family while his home was being searched, Güney used the following expressions regarding the detention process:
“While the police officers were waiting for me at the door, before I was taken into custody, I took a photo with my wife Ayşen, my daughters, and our dear friend. On March 31, 2024, we defeated 30 years of arrogance with our decency.”
Emphasizing that being elected as the Mayor of Beyoğlu was the greatest pride of his life, Güney continued his statement as follows:
“Being elected mayor of the Beyoğlu Municipality, where my father was once a worker, has been the greatest pride life has bestowed upon me. We began our service by saying that the rights of Beyoğlu are entrusted to us. We worked hard to be worthy of our neighbors. We made the Beyoğlu Municipality the municipality with the highest satisfaction among districts in all reputable studies.”
“YOU KNOW US, WE HAVE NO CRIMES”
Pointing out that he has spent his life in Beyoğlu, Güney addressed his neighbors in the district with the following words:
“My dear neighbors, my life has been spent in Beyoğlu; you all know me. You know that the reason for my detention is ugly slander. We have never had, and will never have, a single act we cannot account for. Beyoğlu is conscientious, honorable, and fair. İnan Güney is entrusted to Beyoğlu.”
